Module1 –  Introduction to IoT – 30 min

  • Different applications of IoT in our life
  • Build a Smart Parking system with the help of IoTKidCamp kit

Module 2 – Setting up Dev environment and Smart Parking system HW – 60 min

  • Set up software needed for development
  • Set up Raspberry PI from scratch
  • Basics of resistor colour code
  • Basics of electrical circuit
  • Inspect HW setup for 2 sensors and DIY for 3rd sensor

Module 3 – Physics behind Ultrasonic Sensor – 60 min

  • Doppler effect
  • Transmitter and Receiver to detect distance, speed
  • Play with sensor to check which angle it can detect, how far it can detect

Module 4  Play with Raspberry Pi and IoT middleware code – 90 min

  • Basics of SoC and credit-card sized computer
  • Basics of compiled language vs. interpreted language
  • Raspberry Pi GPIO PIN diagram
  • Add 3rd parking lot sensor in IoT Middleware code

Module 5 – IoT transport protocol – 60 min

  • Basics of MQTT
  • Basics of JSON format
  • Fun exercise with MQTT publisher – subscriber in a group of 4

Module 6 – IoT Analytics in Parking Lot management – 60 min

  • Mathematics / Statistics behind estimation of waiting time
  • Play with Analytics code to tune parameters

Module 7 – IoT Visualization – 60 min

  • Visualization at Middleware
  • Visualization at Smart Parking App

Module 8 – Wrap up session and Feedback – 60 min

  • Re-cap of learning in the course
  • Assignment for the kids who are buying the kit home
