Growth of the IP traffic created scaling issues with core and edge routers. Since, size and energy efficiency of the silicon technology can not cope up with the AGR growth rate of the traffic, most of the IP routers are failing to perform as it is forced to scale upward.
As a result, switching in Layer 2 or even in optical layer is emerging as alternative solution to transfer much of the routing load from IP routers to the OTN switching. However, to realize cross-layer convergence of traffic, ROADM architecture must be modernized to CDC ( Colorless, Directionless and Contensionless). Besides, for an effective GMPLS control plane, new algorithms will be required to bundle traffic in the higher layer and switch them effectively in the optical layer. For protection and restoration, this kind of bundling algorithm can be extremely complex.
We have top level professors and professionals who have worked in the area of cross-layer convergence for many years. For more details, please contact : contact@.zreyastechnology.com
